Beachland Ballroom & Tavern: 2/26

IMG_8555Thursday, February 26th, I ventured up to the Beachland Ballroom & Tavern to watch some of my friends play. I’ve featured The Brothers’ Band and Nick Wilkinson and The Featured Players on the blog before but it’s always good to have a reintroduction.

IMG_8582The Brothers’ Band is a nine-piece Akron, Ohio band composed of two bands that worked closely together. Due to the massive size of the band, there are times when not all members can make a show. But no worries, this doesn’t take away from their overall sound. I’m quite a fan of this band. As I’ve mentioned earlier, they’ve been featured on the blog briefly during the Porch Rokr post.

They play a soulful rock with a wide range of instruments included but not limited to: guitar, bass, piano, drums, saxophone, and trumpet. In 2013, they released a 6-track EP called “‘Til The Rock Ain’t Stone.” You can find it here.

IMG_8636Nick Wilkinson and the Featured Players are also an Akron, Ohio band led by singer/guitarist Nick Wilkinson. They’ve been featured on the blog once before during the later part of last year. This was not Nick’s best performance due to a cold (I believe), but they still knew how to jam. He even covered one of Lorde’s songs. That solidified him as one of my local favorites.

They are currently in the process of recording new music.

IMG_8653Bassel & The Supernaturals were the headlining band out of Chicago, IL. They play a blend of Jazz, Funk, and Rock with a great stage presence. In addition to having a smooth voice, Bassel does a good job of interacting with the crowd and relaying the political message behind his songs.

They released an EP in 2013 called “Dreamer.” I checked it out and it’s a good listen. You can find it here.

Overall, all of the bands performed well. This was one of the better compiled tickets. I’ve been to shows where the bands were completely different from each other, but this one flowed well without sounding exactly the same.

As always, thanks for reading,
