Musica Show 11/14

Friday, November 14th, I decided to get out and see a new show. This is the first one that I’ve been to in a long time where all of the bands are new to the blog.

First to hit the stage was John Patrick Halling, a singer-songwriter out of Kent, OH. He has a very folksy, bluegrass sound that keeps you interested. After the show, I tried finding more of his work, but only came up with a single on his Bandcamp page and a few videos on Youtube. I would be interested to hear more of his work.

Nick Wilkinson and the Featured Players were up next and I can’t rave enough about them. They are a “garage folk” band out of Akron, OH led by the fabulous Nick Wilkinson. In 2012, they released their debut EP “Nothing for Now.”

This is a band that interacts with the crowd and has great stage presence.  Their energy is incredible and Nick’s voice has a habit of evoking a wide range of emotions. By the end of their set, the majority of their equipment had died a beautiful sounding death.

Royal Vasa were the headliners for this show. They’re an alternative band out of Akron, OH with a different sound. Since their album “Wolves” (released in 2013), they have “rebuilt.” This show introduced their fans to their new members and new songs.

This was the first time that I heard them live and I was not disappointed. I really dug their stage set up combined with their awesome energy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for their whole set, but I got to hear “Wolves” which is such a phenomenal song. It was definitely a good night.

I’d suggest giving all of these bands a listen. I’ve provided links to their websites for you all to check out. Enjoy.

Thanks for reading,
