A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of checking out a new Asian restaurant/bar called “Newdle Bar” in the Kent area. I’d been wanting to check out their food for a while but the first time I went their kitchen was closed for the night. I settled for grabbing a drink before leaving. They make a pretty good Sex on the Beach.
I then decided it would be best for me to go during the day time hours. The next time I went, it was a lot less crowded and fairly relaxing. Music by The Beatles, The Rat Pack, and Biggie played in the background. It was like a blast from the past. I’ve always enjoyed older music, so it was great for me. I hummed along quite often.
I’m a huge fan of the look of the place. It’s very industrial with a youthful, modern feel. The bar plays a huge part of it so it stretches down one side of the restaurant. All of their dishware is very simple and clean.
I suppose I should move on to the most important part. The food! My companion and I started off with the Gyoza. It’s these amazing pan-fried pork dumplings. They’re crispy and full of flavor that just bursts in you mouth.
After that, we moved on to sushi. I had the Spicy Scallop roll that was topped with fish eggs. It wasn’t as good as Sakura‘s but I didn’t expect it to be. I suppose I’m a bit of a sushi snob, but it was decent. Not amazing, but decent. I would get it again.
For the main course, I got the Shrimp Yakisoba while Joe, my companion, got the Chicken Yakisoba. I thought it was pretty good. It didn’t have as much flavor as I expected, but when I make it, I tend to go a little overboard. I like everything I eat to be packed with flavor. Joe thought his version was flavorful, so it could have just been the way they cooked the shrimp. I did like the pickled ginger and seaweed on top. When I mixed it in, each bite I took that had those items with them were loaded with flavor.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I’ll be going back for that rice bowl thing I saw on the menu. One of the other diners next to us had it and it intrigued me. It think this is a nice addition to the growing area of Downtown Kent. I have a few other places there I would like to review, so be on the look out for those.
