Review: The Sweet Pea Cafe

IMG_0515Sweet Pea Cafe is a small cafe located in a little building in Fairlawn near Summit Mall. They’re only open during breakfast to lunch hours Monday through Sunday, as well as evenings Friday and Saturday.

IMG_0520When I stepped in, I realized that it was one of those places that allow you to pick your own set. I chose one at the bar. Looking around, I realized that I really dug the look of this place. It’s quaint with quotes and definitions handwritten on chalkboards hanging from the walls. It has a “family” feel to it with young college students or teenagers working the tables.

The food would be categorized as comfort food. I enjoyed the coffee and the salad wasn’t bad. I believed they had their own house made Ranch. For lunch, I got the Chorizo Mac & Cheese. The Mac & Cheese left much to be desired. The Chorizo is what saved this dish. I’m a fan of baked variety so the noodles coated in cheese sauce sprinkled with shredded cheese on top disappointed me. It wasn’t horrible, but far from the best.

IMG_0534Soon after I finished my meal, a few of my friends showed up and I sat and chatted with them for a bit. They all got something from the breakfast menu and I realized that, that is where this place really shines. Everything smelled delicious and they all raved about it. The eggs for the omelets looked light and fluffy. The Huevos Rancheros made my mouth water. I got a mimosa as they ate and it was absolutely tasty.

Next time I’ll definitely be trying the breakfast.
