I wanted to start making more blog posts focused around my own art. Lately, I’ve been creating a whole lot of new things. The photo above is just one of my many new pieces.
I’m a big fan of digital art. I started working with Photoshop and Illustrator when I was a junior in high school. That was a good 7 years ago. I spent a bit of time studying graphic design at The Art Institute of Washington before transferring to Kent State University’s design program. I ended up switching my major to advertising, but illustration is still where my heart lies. Even after changing majors I still took some classes that let me utilize my design and illustrative skills.
I noticed that I’ve been doing a lot of portraits and not enough of anything else. I decided to push myself and my skills because I do want to get better. I want to be able to do full scenes without doubt halting me before I can lay my pencil to my paper. The more practice I have, the better I’ll get.
This piece was inspired by my love of snakes and the fact that things from the dark always coming to the light. This snake symbolizes truth to me. It stands out from the background because the truth should be sharp and clear. I wanted to play around with an early morning, after rain forest scene. I haven’t done many backgrounds, so I was excited to try it. I think it came out fairly well.
Anyway, below are a couple of progress shots I took when making this piece.
Let me know what you think.
