While I was in Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago, I got the chance to check out a restaurant called Bella Vista. It’s situated on the top of Mt. Washington and overlooks the city below. I stopped by before the fireworks on the 4th of July and I was lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar.
It’s an Italian restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. I took some time to chat with the bartender. I’ve always thought that you get a really good feel for the area by talking to the locals. She was the one that hipped me to the term Flatlanders for us Ohio folks. I don’t really get it because much of Ohio is quite hilly.
I had, had a meal prior to this but I was determined to try a local restaurant. I hadn’t really had a chance to and the next day I was heading back to home so this was pretty much my last shot.
When I opened my menu my eyes widened dramatically. I wasn’t expecting it to be that expensive, but I should have known. It was situated in a prime real estate location and looked fairly upscale.
I decided to just get an appetizer. It was enough for me to gauge the taste of the food, but didn’t hurt my wallet as much. I settled on the Crab Stuffed Portobello. The bartender told me I was going to love my choice and she was absolutely right. Although, it was a smaller portion than what I was used to, it was completely worth the money. You could taste the freshness of the crab. It was a flavorful blend of seafood, lemon, and earthy mushroom. My plate was empty by the time I was done.
If the appetizer was that good, I can only imagine how good the entrees are. My next trip back to Pittsburgh, I may have to stop by again and have a full meal.
