The Collision of Old & New: Downtown Akron

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

~ Marcus Garvey

With the take over of downtown Akron by The University of Akron, there has been a lot of great improvements; new buildings have gone up and the city has been renovating old ones. Instead of the downtown area being flushed with druggies, crazies, and beggars, it is now full of students and professionals.

It is a wonderful sight to behold. But that is not my focus for this post. I would like to take time to focus on the little peeks of old in the new. There are a lot of very old buildings that the city has not yet decided to get rid of. It makes my heart weep to think that eventually this history and beauty will be destroyed. So, I wanted to capture the beauty before it’s gone. Take a short walk with me to see what I see in downtown Akron.

Do you see the beauty that I do?

  1. WOW! You have an amazing “eye” for elements all around us and you have a great ability of capturing emotion of the environment.

    • Thank you! When we are around something all the time the beauty of it fades into the background. I like to view everything as a child would. It helps me capture the mood.
