“As practice makes perfect, I cannot but make progress; each drawing one makes, each study one paints, is a step forward.”
-Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890)
I know this is a blog of an artist, but I haven’t been doing a very good job of showing my art. Lately, I’ve been extremely busy with working, my internship, and other various projects that I have going on. But I’m going to try to give you all a peek of what I’ve been doing every week or so. This is the first in that series.
I’m giving you all a sneak peek into my sketchbook. I’m still developing my style. I can’t seem to make up my mind as to where I want to take myself and the compilation of the majority of my work reflects that.
But I do find it interesting that you are always growing and evolving when it comes to art. Well, at least I am. I am forever changing and trying to challenge myself. I try to emulate the people who I admire, but mold it to match me. I never want to lose myself in the process.
It is very hard though because doubts often plague me. I get discouraged when I see something so beautiful and feel that there is no way that I can match it. But I am beginning to learn that, that is all apart of the process.
In addition to my style changing, my subject matter does as well. I tend to go from a digital portrait of a person to a painting of a heart to seashells in charcoal. I move up and down the range of realism and cartoons. For my portfolio’s sake, I hope that the best style will come to me and I can finally develop it further.
Until we meet again,
